Spring Park, Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka

City of Spring Park – Spring Park Bay on Lake Minnetonka

Nestled along Lake Minnetonka’s shores, the quaint City of Spring Park surrounds Spring Park Bay—one of only a few bays with exceptional water quality. It’s critical that this city stay alert to any steps toward forming an unnecessary LID or introducing harmful chemical treatments.

About Spring Park & Spring Park Bay

  • Spring Park Bay – Named for the city itself, this lovely bay offers public boat access and enjoys one of the highest water clarity ratings (A) on Lake Minnetonka – making it a cherished resource.
  • The City of Spring Park, incorporated in 1951, has a small population (~1,700) and remains a close-knit community focused on preserving its lakeside charm.

Why Spring Park Should Avoid LID Formation

  • Preserve Exceptional Water Quality – Spring Park Bay is among the clearest and healthiest in the lake; a LID risks introducing long-term herbicide use that could damage this status.
  • Fiscal Equity – A LID would impose mandatory fees on lakeshore homeowners—even if the majority oppose chemical treatments or additional taxes.
  • Not the City’s Role – Lake Minnetonka management falls under LMCD and the DNR—not the city. Spring Park should focus resources on public access and community needs.
  • Protect Public Access & Safety – LID-driven herbicide use could impact public swimming, boating, and the park’s popular community access areas.

What We Stand Against

Though this LID option may not be active yet, there’s a need to remain vigilant. Creating one could mean forced herbicide treatments, shifted liability, and unnecessary charges on property owners—none of which align with Spring Park’s values.
